The POB is dead… long live the POP!
It’s that time again when hairdressers throughout the UK and beyond will be bombarded with girls clutching a grainy print out and a dream… to keep up with the latest posh Spice look. Yes, as of September 2008 the POB is dead, long live the POP!
Gone is the chic graduated bob, which was first sported in 2006 and then tweaked with chops and spikes throughout 2007 before an eventual return to the classic look last November. Mrs Beckham has lopped off her locks and arrived at the Mark Jacobs’ catwalk show at New York Fashion week sporting a beautifully textured, short, pixie crop, similar to Halle Berry’s 2002 Bond girl look.
It’s a great look for Posh, which beautifully accentuates her neckline and cheek bones, and gives her a fresh, youthful, funky appearance. Karen McDougall, Creative Director of GirlzNight shares her top tips on how your stylist can recreate this look and the products and techniques you should use to maintain it at home.
Karen commented “Posh is never scared to change her style to reflect the season and neither should you be! A new hair style can not only make you look gorgeous, but it can make you feel great too and often gives you a real boost of confidence.
Don’t be afraid of trying new looks or colours, be bold! Posh has had her fair share of ’scare doos’ over the years (particularly around 2001/2002!) but the graduated bob really suited her and if anything this new look enhances her elegance even further. The good news is this style is easy to create and even easier to maintain. Don’t worry about the technical bits in the cut and colour… your stylist will understand!”
The POP
The design
Start with square box layers through the hairline frame, including the front areas. This will add illusions of thickness to fine hair and help reduce waves in thick or coarse hair. Extend the lengths to suit face shape.
Leave internal part of the hair slightly longer to create a soft feminine feel to the look. Shorten top sections with multi-textured layers and deep grove cut internal part to create volume to fine hair and transparency to coarse or thick.
The colour
Add depth and dimension to the regrowth area choosing a colour one shade darker than your natural depth. Slice out panels from the top multi-textured layers using 2-4 different colours that combine a cocktail of light and complimentary reflects that enhance your skin tone. For a natural healthy glow avoid extending the lights two shades past the depth. This will create youthful reflective shine and movement
The finish
Prepare the hair by cleansing with a volume or normal shampoo if your hair is of a fine-medium thickness, and moisture or protein if your hair is thick, coarse or chemically treated. Apply volumising or texturising sprays if your hair is fine medium and control balm or straight spray if your hair is coarse medium or thick.
Directional finger dry or air dry and hair and finish with a dry wax and gloss spray if your hair is fine medium, or texture paste cream and shine blocks if your hair is coarse medium or thick.
