Natural hairstyling tips to help Earth Day last all year

Earth Day may be over, but I think the point is to raise your awareness of green issues so you’ll take those practices into your everyday life!
Ever striving to help you do so, I’ve got some tips on natural hairstyling. Not only are these ideas better for the environment, they’re often cheaper.
Julie Gabriel, author of The Green Beauty Guide, likens maintaining a natural hair routine to raising a healthy, beautiful garden.
“We love the idea of herbs and botanical ingredients nurturing our hair back to health, but while many mainstream herbal shampoos brazenly claim to be natural and organic, most contain tiny amounts of beneficial botanical ingredients, with the bulk of the product consisting of harsh detergents, preservatives, and petroleum-derived silicones.”
To give your hair volume, try a tip rumored to be used by Angelina Jolie – use talc and fragrance-free baby powder on your hair. After using rollers or a heat tool to achieve big curls, sprinkle some baby powder on your roots. Work it down from your scalp to the ends for extra texture. Then blow dry on cool before flipping hair over and back a few times for va-va-voom volume.
As for moisture, Sex and the City’s Kristen Davis says “I buy palm oil from South America. It was actually discovered by the tribes in the Amazon and the oil helps these people sustain a good diet. What I’ve found is that it’s magical as even a daily hair conditioner. It doesn’t weigh your hair down and makes it super shiny. Any girl with long hair needs to try it.” This secret is revealed in The Little Black Book of Hollywood Beauty Secrets by Kym Douglas and Cindy Pearlman.
Another grocery aisle hair miracle? Apple cide vinegar. Rinse it through your hair at the end of your shower to control oil and boost shine. It can even reduce the production of oil over time.
So try a couple of these tricks and find that next time you recylcle that expensive hair mask container, you don’t need to replace it!
