It’s All About Colour at the MTV Movie Awards 2008!

You may not believe it by looking outside lately, but it is now June and summer is officially here! At the 2008 MTV Movie Awards on June 1st, the best dressed ladies shone in bright colourful dresses, shunning boring black and brightening up the red carpet!

So who were the celebrities leading the way in this new colourful fashion parade??

Well Lindsay Lohan has been a bit of a fashion disaster (and other kinds of disasters!) recently, but the red headed starlet managed to clean things up and looked sexy in this seasons hottest colour of all - lavender! L.Lo, who is currently making the gossip pages everywhere for her rumoured lesbian relationship with Mark Ronson’s younger sister Samantha, wore a purple Dolce and Gabanna strapless, belted mini dress with a cute pleated skirt.

She wore her hair very long and polker straight and accessorised with classic black peep toes and fiery red nail polish. The purple looks beautiful with her strawberry blonde locks and pale skin proving you don’t need a tan to wear bright colours! That’s probably a good job since us Brits haven’t seen much sun lately!

Lauren Conrad wore one of her very own designs from The Lauren Conrad Collection; a sultry, one-shouldered cobalt blue dress. The colour was vibrant but still classy, and the dress fitted her like a glove! It’s good to see her stepping away from the trapeze dresses she loves so much and showing off her amazing figure!

Like Lindsay, Lauren opted for red nail polish and black peep toes, showing that you can mix and match bright colours as long as you don’t go too crazy! It’s best for the second bright colour to be used sparingly, like on nails, lips or in the form of a small clutch bag.

Liv Tyler showed the world that she is happy being single when she stood out in a strawberry pink strapless dress from Lanvin. The toga style jersey dress had a really relaxed yet glamorous vibe, and the colour was girly without being sickly. She funked things up a little with leopard print Christian Louboutin pumps. Mixing prints and colour is a sure fire way to get yourself noticed!

And finally, for adding a little colour without going for an all over bold look, try the very trendy colour block style of Katherine McPhee’s Herve Leger dress. The ex American Idol stars sexy pencil dress was mostly black and therefore very flattering, but the bustier had blue, orange and silver stripes for a bit of uniqueness. That’s the great thing about colour blocks - you can combine random colours that you might not normally think to!

I personally love this trend so I recommend checking out ASOS as they have picked up on the colour block style. Bright colours are all over the high street everywhere so you have no excuse to stick to boring blacks and neutrals! While of course I do love black and neutrals too, it’s summer and I want everyone to experiement with some colour! It really does lift your mood!
