Irregular Choices, Dolls and Blushers - Oh My!

If I ruled the world, or at the very least, became mayor of a very small village, I’d write down a list of very important things to do, and somewhere down that list I’d write Make it complusory to dress like we’re all from the streets of Harajuku.

From the postman to the little old lady who smells of cats; we’d all be draped in outrageously decadent clothes, annihilating fashion conventions - left, right and centre.

However back here on planet earth, I must admit to playing it safe; but I do thank the Fashion Gods for the people who have the guts to stick up two fingers to the passing fads of the season.

So that’s why I’ve chosen whimsical shoe extraordinaire, Irregular Choice as my fashion highlight this week.

Since 1999, this creative British label has been defying conventions with their irreverent takes on shoe design. It’s no wonder Gwen Stefani is fan. Just take a look at these beauties!

Admittedly they won’t be to everyone’s tastes but I think they’re smashing!

The Sweet Escape

Bogged down in the winter beauty-blues? Well then, look ahead to the sweet escape of spring as seen on the models of John Galliano’s Spring/Summer 2008 collection.

Think of creamy porcelain doll-like skin, dusted with rosy pink blusher and sugar sweet lips. It may be prim but it’s certainly not proper.

Or try taking inspiration from Christian Dior’s models - heavily influenced by the hey-day of Marie Antoinette.

Here, skin takes on a luminous dewy quality with just a dust of colour on the cheeks.

Tip - As blusher is a key to this look, remember the correct place to apply the colour is beneath your apples. If you’re not quite sure how to locate the apples, just smile. The raised fleshy parts are where you will find them.

Tip - Always look to see what needs to be accentuated. If your features fall flat, think about purchasing a highlighter (this may come in powdered form or liquid) which can then be applied over the bridge of the nose, chin and forehead. This will bring more light to your features and create definition.
