Girlznight’s very own Cy interviews celebrity stylist Gok Wan at the Spectacle Wearer of the Year awards.

The Spectacle Wearer of The Year awards is an annual event which celebrates the sassiest spectacle wearers from the UK and Europe and crowns one lucky winner the ‘Spectacle Wearer of the year’.

The recent grand final was hosted in London by fashion guru Gok Wan and was attended by a host of celebs, many of whom sported their own gorgeous glasses. Winning the title of Spectacle Wearer of the year was Sofia Jama, a stunning 26 year old from Denmark, with the prize for celebrity spectacle wearer going to former All Saints singer, Melanie Blatt.

The evening also included a celebrity auction for SWOTY charity Kidscape, led by Gok Wan, which raised an incredible £28,200. Kidscape is the first charity in the UK established specifically to prevent bullying and child sexual abuse, and to provide effective anti-bullying training.

Girlznight were there on the night and our very own Cy caught up with Gok Wan before the event for an exclusive interview. Enjoy!

Cy: Hi Gok, how are you. I’m Cyrus from the excellent City of Glasgow.

Gok: Can I just give you my favourite Glaswegian term… “Gonna’ geez a swatch of yer boaby”. Are you impressed!

The general concensus at girlznight is you look white hot in your white glasses. Do you have a favourite pair?

I do and they broke on Saturday. I was drunk. I was *really* drunk and I went to go and speak to a friend of mine and I’d had one too many Stella Tops and I headbutted the wall while I was trying to talk to her… and they broke! So I need to get a new pair that I love.

Do you honestly believe glasses are sexy?

I honestly do think glasses are sexy. When I was younger I used to fancy guys with glasses. It was a really big thing of mine, I love the geek chic. I have to say, if I go into a club, or into a room, there are certain things that I pick out first. Number 1 is they have to be snappy dressers with lots of originality and number 2 I look for glasses, I genuinely do I think glasses are really hot. I think they are absolutely gorgeous because I love the idea of someone being confident and I think it takes often someone very, very confident to be able to justify why they wear glasses because of the stigma attached to it, so it kind of comes hand in hand.

How do you from an artistic perspective, sift through the rubble and find the gem jobs to choose? Is there are process you go through?

Do you know what, I have to believe in what I’m doing. When the guys at Channel 4 first asked me to present How To Look Good Naked I was very unsure whether I wanted to do it. I mean I come from a styling background, I come from the fashion industry and in some ways I was kind of sticking my fingers up to fashion and saying this has got to change. I did genuinely believe in what we were talking about and what we were discussing. I get offered a million different TV shows, millions of different concepts and treatments to read, but I wouldn’t ever do anything unless I was politically in tune with it.

What was it like meeting Sarah Jessica Parker at the Sex And The City Premiere?

It was amazing, it was amazing! Sarah who is this woman, this icon who had invented the TV show that changed my life was then saying that she knew who I was and then from there I knew Kim Cattral already and all the other girls and then Patricia Fields comes up and she says the same thing ‘Oh, you are my British equivalent’ and I just then die! I mean that night I was just basically masturbating the whole night! I mean that’s what it was like on the red carpet, it was that kind of energy. Sorry, I don’t think I can say that can I… on girlznight (ed – you just did Gok!). But that’s what it was like, it was amazing, like the biggest orgasm for like 4 hours… it was phenomonal!

You were quoted on the Friday night project, divulging that your New Year’s resolution was to find a husband. I was just wondering… how you are getting on with that task… and can I buy you a drink later!?

You are filth! And the answer is… yes to both! I’m still auditioning, which has been fun, and mine will be a Stella top!
