Fashion Face-Off: The Gossip Girls!

The hit American teen drama Gossip Girl begins on ITV 2 this Thursday and I recommend you all watch it as it’s fantastic! Especially the fashion! To give you a taste of what’s in store, here are its two main female stars, Blake Lively and Leighton Meester, in a fashion face-off! Who’s going to be your favourite?

Gossip Girl has taken the youth of the USA by storm with its melodramatic plot lines, raunchy love triangles and high fashion clothes. The new teen drama, based on a group of rich, beautiful and troubled teenagers in the Upper East Side of New York and their equally messed-up parents, is like a modernised Dawson’s Creek or The OC.

The show is narrated by Kristen Bell who is the voice of Gossip Girl, an anonymous character who like a female Perez Hilton blogs about all the gossip in the lives of this elite crowd. The show’s creators are Josh Schwartz, creator of The OC and Stephanie Savage, a writer on The OC. So if you were a fan of the Orange County teens and want a grittier New York based version, tune in to Gossip Girl when it hits our screens Thursday!

Tall, blonde and gorgeous Blake Lively plays bad girl turned good Serena van der Woodsen on the show. Serena is usually seen sporting a Kate Moss-esque boho chic style.

Blake, who has a more classic style than her on-screen character, attended the 25th Annual Paleyfest yesterday along with the rest of her Gossip Girl cast. The 20 year old actress looked sleek in a tailored white blazer with navy lapels and gold buttons. She teamed the sophisticated jacket with casual skinny jeans and a white ribbed vest for a great contrast. She finished off her look with black patent peep toes, chunky navy and gold bracelets and volumous blonde waves.

Rivaling Blake in the style stakes we have porcelain skinned Leighton Meester, aka the uber-rich and snobby Blair Waldorf. Bitchy Blair’s style is generally prim, proper and very expensive! Her mother is even a fashion designer.

Leighton herself tends to dress in a girly chic style, and she continued that way at yesterday’s Paleyfest, wearing a short, floaty yellow dress with trendy frills around the neckline and on the skirt. The stunning, doe eyed, 21 year old actress accessorised with a hot pair of brown and white mocassin style peep toes. She kept everything else simple with her hair in a casual updo and tons and tons of mascara.

Personally, I love that both girls have their own individual sense of style, but I’d have to say my favourite is Leighton. I love her feminine, sassy, spring time look. Or maybe it’s just because her character Blair is my favourite on the show?
