If you’re anything like me, you probably possess two different sets of hair care accessories. One set to wear out for your adoring public to see; and the other; an embarrassing collection chock full of extremely handy yet sparkly hair clips and unsightly scrunchies.

Ah yes the dreaded scrunchies, loved in the 90s but soon loathed by international fashionista Carrie Bradshaw and her cronies.

“No New York girl in her right mind would be caught dead wearing a scrunchie!” she said.

I’ve got to be honest here. I hadn’t even considered it to be such an offensive item until she had spat out her death to all scrunchies speech! But if Carrie Bradshaw says they’re no good, well surely no one will ever wear one again.

‘But, but…they’re so useful!’ I remembered thinking to myself.

There are specific fashion don’ts which I have absorbed into my subconscious. They tend to stick to my head even if I don’t really care for them. Thus I can never wear brown with black or white socks with black shoes; and now the same goes for scrunchies!

When you really look at the scrunchie, it’s not exactly an attractive thing is it?

So imagine my surprise when I was flicking through the September issue of Non-no (a Japanese magazine) and found a six page spread devoted to wearing the scrunchie!

It’s quite a cute casual style that seems to suit the models. Though it would most certainly seem out of place in a board room.

East and West fashion trends are extremely similar (yes they’re even reporting on the huge tartan/plaid trend). Not to mention that Japanese fashion magazines tend to be about three years ahead of the rest of the world when it comes to trends. So it makes me wonder if the scrunchie will ever come back to the UK.

What do you think? Is it all a bit too much? Too fussy? I quite like some of updos and think it works well in a swept up side pony tail. Have a look at some more images from the spread for ideas.

Unfortunately I can’t quite get rid my scrunchie issues enough to wear one out and about so let’s not call it a comeback just yet!

Although Miss Bradshaw seems to be coming round to the idea (all be it not in her hair)
