Continental Chic: From Nautical To Just Plain Naughty!
Paris has been the undisputed fashion capital for many, many years boasting hoards of style-dedicated citizens that ooze continental chic. It’s hardly surprising then that the High Street has become obsessed with Eiffel Tower inspired accessories including brooches, handbags, and earrings in an attempt to add a certain Je ne sais quoi to the British wardrobe. Even Berets have come back into vogue!
You can emulate the look even further by investing in some staple style basics and adding your own creative twist. The roots of classical daytime French fashion are quite nautical in nature. Start with some basic mono items, anything in black or white will create a perfect base. Then all you need to do is add flashes of red. A pair of red shoes, a red chiffon scarf, or even a nice chunky scarlet belt – anything in fact that screams sophistication. Top it all off with a pair of Tortoise-Shell sunglasses and voila you’ll have a timeless movie star look to die for – think Audrey Hepburn in Funny Face!
Once dusk falls however style takes a bit of a turn in the French capital going from nautical to just plain naughty! A bit of inspiration from the Moulin Rouge can have you tottering about in stripper heels and corsets whilst seductively wafting feathered fans. This look doesn’t necessarily mean showing off an obscene amount of flesh. Team a corset with a pair of black trousers or accessorize an evening gown with a fan. Burlesque is currently experiencing a massive revival so don’t be afraid to show your saucy side when you’re out in the club – it’s creative, it’s confident and it’s totally on-trend!
