The Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute Gala in New York is like the fashion industry’s equivalent to the Oscars in terms of red carpet celebrity wattage. And it’s the equivalent of prom in all the “who’s going with who, what’s she wearing” buzz.  This year’s theme is Model as Muse so you can bet all our favorite mannequins will be navigating the steps in style.

Despite rumored confidentiality agreements between designers and those they’re dressing, some leaks have been lapped up by the media. Marc Jacobs, one of the hosts of the evening with Kate Moss and Anna Wintour, is picking up a lot of the recession-sales slack by having fiance Lorenzo Martone “semi-host” his own table. Jacobs will be dressing Moss (who is rumored to also be wearing a Stephen Jones turban she helped design) as well as Helena Christensen in his own line, and Madonna and Kerry Washington in Louis Vuitton. (Washington is the face of their current campaign.)

Another American designer holding their own in the table department is Calvin Klein Collection. Women’s Creative Director Francisco Costa is said to be dressing Halle Berry while her boyfriend, Calvin Klein model Gabriel Aubry will be wearing the men’s line. Chanel will be bringing the new face of Chanel No. 5 Audrey Tatou and Lagerfeld favorite Diane Kruger.

More actresses attending include Jessica Alba in Jason Wu, Rachel Bilson in Bally. But the night, as the theme suggests, is really about the models. More of those confirmed by the rumor mill? Jessica Stam in Rodarte, Coco Rocha in Isaac Mizrahi, Lauren Hutton with Michael Kors. Many more are attending but shrouded in mystery when it comes to their gown: Natalia, Agyness, Chanel, Sasha. It’s going to be a really star-studded evening.

Come on people, we ALL have them. Those little times in life when you chuckle away to yourself, feeling rather smug at some unpredicted self satisfaction. Euirpides, a greek tragic dramatist, once wrote “Short is the joy that guilty pleasure brings” That is very true… But in this case, the truth doesn’t hurt! The following things are cheeky wee things or happenings that I like, muchly.

1. Finding a biscuit or other munchy type thing in your bag (thats still within ‘eat by’ date) that you had forgotten about.

2. Discovering soggy money notes in the pockets of washed jeans. Especially when the jeans are not yours, but you are the one doing the washing.

3. When you go to use the public toilets you have to pay to get into, and there is already an extra 20p credit in the turnstall because some idiot didn’t have change.

4. When vending machines go crazy, and give you two packets of sweeties when you only paid for one.

5. When people unknowingly put an extra sugar in your tea. No complaints there.

6. When your wee granny gives you a fiver to top up your phone, and doesn’t listen when you repeat for the millionth time that you’ve had a contract phone since high school.

7. When there is JUST enough milk left for one cup of coffee. Perfecto! Insert evil laugh here.

8. When you come home to a cold (but still brilliant) dinner in the fridge and you’ve actually already eaten. Double whammy. Can’t offend mum now eh?

9. When you’re at work and a mother refers to you to her wee infant as ‘the lady’ and not ‘the girl’. The lady will throw you out this shop if you don’t stop crying! Damn right I will.

10. When people ask if your tattoos/piercings were sore, and you say ‘nah’ very casually. People love to hear that… But really darling, I’m lying through my teeth. It was the worst pain in my life and I cried like a wee girl. Ehhhm, I mean, a lady!

Hi everyone! Well, I’m sure you can’t have escaped the Big Brother mania that’s been sweeping the UK this week with the launch of Big Brother 9 last night. Seeing as how there’s so much to talk about I thought we’d make this week’s column especially focused on Big Brother so that we can get some early views of the show in and ponder over just what the BB Bosses have in store for the 16 unsuspecting housemates this year.

First up let’s talk about the house. It’s definitely bigger this year isn’t it? There’s elements of luxury like the gorgeous bedroom, but also a rather dull looking bedroom on the other side, I wonder how they will choose who goes in what bedroom?…. (more…)

Now that it is legal for lesbian and gay couples to marry in California TV Star and Host Ellen DeGeneres recently revealed live on her show that she and long term girlfriend Portia de Rossi will be getting married. Portia shot to fame on the hit TV show Ally McBeal and the two have been one of Hollywood’s most publicised lesbian couples during their relationship and are both apparently overjoyed at the fact they can now legally marry and commit to eachother fully.

Speaking of weddings, Ashlee Simpson and her Fall Out Boy boyfriend Pete Wentz have recently tied the knot at a private ceremony last Saturday at the Simpson family home in Encino, CA. This adds further fuel to the rumours that Ashlee is pregnant, although there’s still not been an announcement confirming this so I’m beginning to get a little confused as to who to believe! … (more…)

I’m sure most of you out there remember the amazing movie ‘Point Break’ which shot Keanu Reeves and Patrick Swayze to stardom 17 years ago. Us women probably remember it more for those great shots of Keanu and Patrick without their shirts on but hey, it was a great movie!!

Well, believe it or not, after all this time point break is due to get a big budget sequel! Now I’m not sure quite how I feel about all these Hollywood remakes lately, I can’t help but wonder why people don’t seem to want to make original movies anymore. Gwyenth Paltrow isn’t one of the celebrities I usually associate with high fashion but recently she’s definitely caught my attention after being spotted out and about wearing some killer heels! From the range of huge stilettos she’s been sporting lately to those classic black heels she’s apparently creating a look that’s causing shops in London to sell out of shoes! Marie Claire magazine recently reported that Selfridges in particular has noticed a surge in 7 inch heels in brands like Balenciaga, Christian Louboutin and Yves Saint Laurent. I’m not sure I could actually walk in them myself but there’s no doubt they do look seriously stylish! (more…)

Tonight is the night of The 2008 British Soap Awards. Who will you be voting for?? Some of the awards up for grabs are: Sexiest Male and Female, Best Actor and Actress, Best Comedy Performance, Villain of the Year, Spectacular Scene of the Year, Best On-Screen Partnership and of course the ultimate accolade, Best British Soap. Coronation Street won last year but personally I’d love to see Eastenders of Hollyoaks win this year! Hollyoaks has had some of the most amazing storylines this past year and I think it’s possibly one of the most underrated soaps on our screens at the moment. This Morning TV Duo Fern and Phillip will be presenting so it should be a giggle to watch, I’m looking forward to watching it on ITV Wednesday! (more…)

It has recently been announced that Kelly Brooke and fiancé Billy Zane have ended their 4 year relationship together. I’m actually quite sad about this as they were one of my favourite celebrity couples, they seemed very down to earth and comfortable in each others company and it was obvious they had a huge commitment to eachother which shone through when Kelly recently appeared in strictly come dancing and Billy was there every night cheering her on from the audience. The poor guy always looked a bit bemused by Brucies renowned clichéd jokes and comments but that’s not really his fault now is it! (more…)
