InStyle.com has some of the first photos of Sarah Jessica Parker on the set of the Sex and the City sequel! We all remember what a controversy it was last time around, when we started seeing all the fashion and getting major spoilers (Carrie in a wedding dress! Charlotte with a little girl!) long before the movie debuted. Now, a few short years later it seems par for the course. We get Gossip Girl set photos almost weekly and sometimes own the fashions before we see them on the small/big screen.

Personally, I really like the sneak peek and it doesn’t take away from my enjoyment of the final product at all. Movies where the clothes are “a character” in the film always go by so fast, you’re always left wanting more and wondering who made this dress or that shoe. And those who don’t follow the fashion press can still have that experience. But those of us in the know can just enjoy seeing all the pieces we saw in still pictures walking around on the big screen. If anything, it enhances my experience.

In the photos above Carrie is wearing Christian Louboutin gold glitter heels and carrying a Chanel clutch. I’m sure more fashion credits will start rolling in any day now!

Olivia Palermo and Elle return to the small screen

olivia-palermo

Fashionista was one of my favorite of the fashion-based TV shows, and Elle is increasingly becoming one of my top favorite of the mainstream glossies. So I’m very excited that the magazine is getting more TV time. This time the mag will be connected to Olivia Palermo on The City.

The Hills franchise isn’t something I follow too closely, but I know that Palermo played a bitchy antagonist to star Whitney Port while they were both working at Diane von Furstenberg. Now Port has headed back to PR magnate Kelly Cutrone’s People’s Revolution company and apparently Palermo is at Elle. Fashion Week Daily says the social is working under the mag’s PR director, Erin Kaplan. So, the line between being good PR and being good at PR continues to blur.

Both women were seen to be working for their respective “employers” during Mercedez Benz Fashion Week Swim in Miami last week. They crossed paths at least once, at the Xtra Life LYCRA event which was plastered with signs that camera crews would be filming The City there.

Drew Barrymore’s Grey Gardens Beauty Look

Monday, April 27th, 2009

Due to an unfortunate lack of HBO, I have not yet seen the hotly anticipated Grey Gardens remake starring Drew Barrymore and Jessica Lange. But, having seen a plethora of YouTube clips, articles and screen caps I know the one thing more impressive than Drew’s star turn as “little Edie” – her makeup! From her glamorous days as a twenty-something Edie to a near complete transformation to the Edie of the original documentary Drew looks perfect for every time period.

All this is thanks to makeup artist Vivian Baker. “I wanted to maintain [the stars'] inner beauty throughout the process, and not make them appear too made up. These are beautiful women!”

Fans of that other beautiful cable phenom, Mad Men, will love what Baker has to say about the ’50s beauty looks captured for the film.

“The ’50’s were all about the eye brow … the arch, the strength and the subtleness … those brows said so much about the women who wore them. They were soft yet defined, sexy yet strong,” Baker said. “The 1950’s look was also meant to be beautiful, iconic and indicative of where the character came from. It’s interesting what we know about women and their makeup–just like any woman, Little Edie found her place and her look at an early age, and she held onto it.”

Other products she says are necessary for the ’50s look are translucent powder like I-Finish Translucent Loose Powder, for that matte look, and a sexy mascara like Bed Head Wigged Out Mascara.

running-in-heels

Running in Heels has been the most likable and the most realistic reality show about working for a magazine yet. No overly dramatic camera work or caricatures. Plus, to top it all off, they actually make it look cool and fun to work at a magazine.

That magazine is Marie Claire, and they’re giving you a chance to win a free subscription in honor of the show’s finale on Sunday.

The series follows three real interns as they navigate their first gigs in the fashion industry under editors like Nina Garcia and Joanna Coles (one of the most exciting things was seeing Garcia take the reigns at her new mag after her much publicized departure from Elle).

To win, click here and leave a comment on the Shop It To Me blog with your biggest office fashion faux-pas. Contenders include visible bra straps (ick), tube tops in the office (a blazer does not make it okay!) and more. Read up on what gives everyone the icks and enter to win!

American Idol backstage beauty secrets!

american-idol-finalists

Anyone who’s ever watched the audition episodes of American Idol (the best part!) knows that once the finalists get to the big show they often get a major beauty overhaul with a team of experts.

One of those experts is American Idol head hairstylist Raissa Patton. Backstage on set, Patton uses the FHI Heat Nano Weight Pro 1900 blow dryer and FHI hair straighteners on the idol finalists. Personally, I think Adam and Allison have the best straight styles.

“[A 4/10"] styling iron is great for all short hair – male or female short-haired clients will be mystified with the texture and shape that can be added to their hairstyle by just a few well placed and executed passes with this iron,” Patton said. This must be what she uses on Adam!

For those who use their styling iron for waves as well as straigtening, a 1″ iron will work best (we’ve definitely seen Allison rock this style). “[A 1" iron] still smaller than most, will not only perform all your straightening needs but with a flick of the wrist give you glorious waves that last much like the larger bumper irons but much easier to manage with its floating plates and even heat.”

To straighten and “bump” the ends (shape straight hair to either curl under or out at the end) Patton recommends a 1-1/4″ iron. “[It] offers a full-size surface area for those clients who really need to get the hair smooth and shiny.”

“All [the FHI Heat] irons have a nonstick surface allowing you to glide smoothly through hair as well as adjustable temperature gauges to allow you to protect even the most fragile hair as well as straighten more course, durable hair with stealth.”

The American Idols aren’t the only performers to use FHI Heat styling products. Katy Perry, Lady Gaga, Fergie and Alicia Keys all have FHI Heat products. But don’t get any ideas, I don’t think they’ll help you sing any better.

Go Dotty For Spots This Spring

50s Polka Dot
50s Polka Dot – by BradshawsCloset on Polyvore.com

It seems as though fashion trends for 2009 are going to be retro through and through and right now 50s style polka dots are the hottest pattern on the high street. If you’re going to go dotty for spots, it’s important to invest in some high quality timeless pieces that you will get use out of. Bargain basement fashion is all well and good but with a trend that comes around as often as polka dots you really need to be looking at items that are going to stand the test of time.polkadress

The best buy at the moment has to be this gorgeous mono dot dress from Oli. As mentioned in my post “Mellow Yellow, Spring Shades to Brighten Up Your Days” shift dresses are massive fashion news thanks to their super-flattering shape. This one comes complete with a patent leather belt and has a fabulous retro round-neck collar. It will set you back just £60.00 from Oli and is well worth the investment.

polkaskirtIf you fancy being a bit more subtle about your spots opt for this beautiful polka dot pencil skirt from Browns. At £95.00 it is a bit more on the pricey side but it is also the kind of garment that can be dressed up or down for almost any occasion. Roughly translated this means you will be getting your money’s worth for a long time to come. Team it with block colours such as pink or red to break up the polka dot effect and for a totally fifties finish wear a simple string of pearls around your neck.

If all of this is a little bit above your price bracket, purchase some polka accessories instead to retro-up your current wardrobe.polkabag You can’t go wrong with this Suzy Smith Satin Spot clutch from Asos. It boasts beautiful ruffle detail and costs just £29.50 which is a small price to pay for something so totally on trend. Team all of the above with a flirty Marilyn Monroe-esque giggle and you are guaranteed male attention – time to get practicing in front of the mirror methinks!

ellenportia.gif

Now that it is legal for lesbian and gay couples to marry in California TV Star and Host Ellen DeGeneres recently revealed live on her show that she and long term girlfriend Portia de Rossi will be getting married. Portia shot to fame on the hit TV show Ally McBeal and the two have been one of Hollywood’s most publicised lesbian couples during their relationship and are both apparently overjoyed at the fact they can now legally marry and commit to eachother fully.

Speaking of weddings, Ashlee Simpson and her Fall Out Boy boyfriend Pete Wentz have recently tied the knot at a private ceremony last Saturday at the Simpson family home in Encino, CA. This adds further fuel to the rumours that Ashlee is pregnant, although there’s still not been an announcement confirming this so I’m beginning to get a little confused as to who to believe! … (more…)

Point Break Sequel – Angelina Twins Confirmed Plus Kate and Owen News

pointbreak.gif

I’m sure most of you out there remember the amazing movie ‘Point Break’ which shot Keanu Reeves and Patrick Swayze to stardom 17 years ago. Us women probably remember it more for those great shots of Keanu and Patrick without their shirts on but hey, it was a great movie!!

Well, believe it or not, after all this time point break is due to get a big budget sequel! Now I’m not sure quite how I feel about all these Hollywood remakes lately, I can’t help but wonder why people don’t seem to want to make original movies anymore. It seems almost every film that hits cinemas now is a sequel to an old film, a remake of an old film or a film of a TV series (more…)
